The association Malogne

The association Malogne, created in the department fondamental and applicated geology of the Polytechnic Faculty in Mons, has as goal the study, protection and preservation of geologic sites in the valley of Mons and also the dissemination of these studies’ results to the audience.

The geological object, represented by the underground quarries of the Malogne in Cuesmes, forms a major educational tool to popularise the science in the Walloon region.

The big extinction of the dinosaur is registered in the rocks and a network of breaks, who affect the North European continent, is visible in 3D. We can also discover the phreatic table of chalk and the remains of a sea reptile from the end of the Cretaceous.

The Malogne, exceptional patrimony of the Walloon region, is also a reserve for bats and forms a unique testimony for the industrial archaeology.

To popularise the science, the association proposes educational projects and goes to differents schools to support students and teachers who would like to improve their skills in science.

The association has been recognized as an educational organisme that sensitises man to our nature and forests. The association also teaches in the Polytechnic Faculty to form nature guides.

The geologists that participate at the life of the association, officer an adult audience that is concerned about the life on our planet. They organise geologic and cultural trips in Belgium and foreign countries.
